The Brazilian Northeast’s Vast Potential for the Energy Revolution
Brazil is rapidly emerging as a global frontrunner in the energy transition, and the Northeast is set to play a crucial role in it. By early 2025, the Northeast has reached 7.23 GW of distributed solar generation, accounting for 19.7% of the national total – and the momentum shows no signs of slowing. The Northeast also has 9.17 GW of centralised solar generation, accounting for 52% of the sector, with an additional 4 GW under construction and the green light for another 78 GW. According to the federal government’s Ten-Year Energy Plan, the region is expected to see the largest expansion in photovoltaic plants by 2034. Also, the National Electric System Operator predicts that the Northeast’s energy capacity to export to the rest of the country will have grown by 30% until 2029. The region is also leading the way in Green Hydrogen development, with projects underway in several Northeastern states which have attracted billions of dollars in investment. E-mobility is also gaining traction, with the region leading the way in incentivising the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles, and gearing up for a surge in energy storage investments, with the support of the FNE Green Fund.
The Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste 2025 Conference will bring together 500 high-level delegates to hear from more than 30 renowned speakers who will discuss policies, legal and regulatory challenges, as well as financing and energy transition solutions. The event will also feature an exhibition with 100 hand-picked exhibitors, who will engage with conference delegates and over 5,000 professional visitors from the region.
